Creative Act - Top 5 Hip Hop Albums of All Time

1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
For my creative act I have compiled my top 5 favorite hip hop albums of all time that have inspired over the years. I decided to make this a creative act because this songs that are on the albums are what inspire me to do my best work. When I created my other acts, I was usually listening to one of these 5 albums, looking for inspiration. I draw the inspiration from both the beat, and the messages delivered in the lyrics.

Creative Act - Car Audio System

For my creative act, I, with the help of my father installed a car audio system in to my car. My dad installed the last one into my old truck. He taught me how to do it step by step, so this time around he figured that I could do it myself, along with a little big of help. After observing him install the system into my truck, the process seemed pretty basic this time around. Essentially I disconnected the back speaker that originally acted as the subwoofer, and put the after market one in its place. I mounted the amp to the side of sub, because thats where it fit best. The amp has a 2 way output, making it easy to hook up to the CD deck. This is a great thing to know how to do because it allows you to save lots of money.

Creative Act - Cereal Television

For my creative act I designed and built a television replica out of old cereal boxes. I got the idea from seeing a puppet show on tv, which reminded me of building them as a kid in grade 3 art class. I thought it would be fun to re-create one of these televisions now that I am older. The boxes are stuck together with tape, and plastic rap covers the front to represent the screen. A tin foil rod is then stuck on top to resemble the antenna.

Hype Machine

For my creative act this week I have chosen to share my hype machine (Hype M) with you. Hype M is essentially a giant music library, where people can create accounts, and follow the music that they love. The website is easy to use, and its free to sign up for. The majority of the time I listen to my account is while I'm doing homework because it helps me focus. You can follow songs or artists by licking the heart shaped icon beside the file in which your listening to. This adds it to your own personal account, which other users of Hype M can follow.

Creativity: Act 6. Air Jordan Coral Paint Shop

Coral Paint Shop Pro X2 is a cool way to edit photos. I chose to edit my favourite sneaker, the Air Jodan. The Jordan 3 & 5 were designed by Tinker Hatfield, with releases in the late 80's and early 90's. Each shoe was specifically designed to be worn on the court by Michael Jordan. I took both these photos and edited them using Coral Paint's many features. The Jordan 3 was created using an artistic effect feature, which involves making the shoe look as if its from an old news paper. There are also some color changes, and brightness adjustments done to the shoe. The Jordan 5 was created using the illumination effect, to make it looks as if a light is casting a shadow on the shoe. The colors to the shoe were also adjusted, to help enhance the shadow effect.

Creativity: Act 5. Cigar Box Guitar

Recently my Pops and I created this Cigar Box Guitar from scratch. Its a basic concept that we picked up online, however its a daunting task to complete. Its a very delicate process that took many hours. Its essentialy just a cigar box that we purchased for the base, and the rest is just wood we carved out. It is a fully working electric guitar that sounds great.

Creativity: Act 4. Jean shop 101

These are a pair of APC New Standard Jeans that I have been working on. Working with a Denim Design Lab jean kit, I have been able to fade, crease, and wash these jeans to the look they are now. The majority of the work was done by just wear over time, however the fine-tuning was done with sandpaper, the abreasion tool, and bleech. Below are some photos of an origional pair of APC's, the ones I have worked with, as well as the tools used.

Alife Presents: Clayton Patterson L.E.S. Captured

A small storefront gallery On Rivington Street, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, called Alife Presents displays a portrait gallery, on a plasma screen, of what the L.E.S. used to be like. There are also more photos inside, all of which are captured by Mr. Patterson. Patterson consideres these photos historical documents because the L.E.S. has changed so drastically.

“I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was capturing the last of the wild, free, outlaw, utopian, visionary spirit of the Lower East Side,”

Over the years, Patterson has collected an estimated hundreds of thousands of photographs, & over 300 audiotaped interviews, not to mention a collection of Lower East Side ephemera, including graffiti stickers, books, & tattoo art.
